I am an avid technologist – I crave anything with a chip in it
and software wrapped around it!
Connect that black box to every other device and I’m hooked. Computer architecture, software,
networking, wireless, physics, astronomy, math – if it’s science or technology
– I want to know, discuss, and explore.
My favorite physicists are Oersted, Ampere, Faraday, Maxwell, and
Marconi because they contributed to the establishment of the study of
electromagnetism – the foundation for everything wireless – arguably the most
revolutionary technology out there. I
like to help drive the practical application of technology and science in an
entrepreneurial way. Great inventions
are not enough; one must find and explore innovative ways to apply the
invention in a practical way that solves relevant problems. Good books: “A Short History of Nearly
Everything” by Bill Bryson, “Electric Universe” by David Bodanis, “On
Intelligence” by Jeff Hawkins and Sandra Blakeslee. “The World is Flat” by
Thomas Friedman, “Wikinomics” by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams, World Religion/History I enjoy learning about different religions and cultures around
the world. The history of ancient
civilizations and modern history are fascinating as is the ability to
hopefully learn from such history and avoid repeating the same mistakes in
today’s society. Good books: “The
Lessons of History”, by Will and Ariel Durant, “One God, Three Faiths:
Judaism, Christianity, Islam” by F.E. Peters, “The Case for a Creator” by Lee
Strobel, “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis. I enjoy playing basketball and flag football with my
friends. I also enjoy exercising,
primarily running. I completed my
first (and only) marathon in November 2003 in I enjoy listening to classical music and playing the
piano. My two favorite classics are
Clair De Lune by Debussy and Pachelbel’s Canon in D. I love to travel. My
ideal job would be a tour guide to remote destinations around the world. I was fortunate to serve a mission for my church in Paraguay for 2 years where I
learned Spanish and some Portuguese.
At Intel, I traveled abroad and lived in Madrid, Spain for 4 months
and traveled to Mexico and Brazil every month for 1 year. While in Europe, I briefly went to Munich
for a trade show once but have yet to visit the rest of the continent. I was able to experience the Asia Pacific
region as Product Marketing Engineer for Intel and visit customers in
Tokyo-Japan, Taipei-Taiwan, Beijing-China, and Seoul-Korea. The Great Wall
was a highlight of that trip and the food in Seoul was amazing! Outside of work, Nancy and I have taken
trips together to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Foz de Iguazu, and
most recently Peru. We also took the
girls on a wonderful journey across the United States in 2007. See some of our photos at picasa. My father-in-law Jim Heap has me hooked on the Rubik’s cube. He showed me how to solve the 3x3, 4x4, and
5x5 via his “solution” manual that he wrote a few years ago. I can solve both the 3x3 and 4x4, but the
5x5 has me baffled. Puzzles and mind
games in general are a lot of fun.
Romney in 2012!
Connecting back through the family line has been a treat. My Dad’s family comes from a line of brick
masons and blacksmiths in Lowdham England.
My Dad’s Mom has roots in Denmark (Fugal) and Scotland (Young). My Mom’s line comes from Canada
(Cosseboom), England (Inkley), and Connecticut/New York (Clawson). There is still a lot of work to do on the
Cosseboom line. A great place to start
doing family history work is http://www.familysearch.org
